That knowledge not only helps us cope with the troubles of life but also influences our relationship with God. She points out that one of the main prayers St Paul prays is that we would have a deeper knowledge of the goodness of God.

Brendan looks at the Lords prayer in Te Reo. He goes through each verse in Maori and explains the nuances of meaning that we can gain when we see familiar words through the lens of another language and culture.

Mike Burrows, from open doors shares with us about the persecuted church around the world. He explains what is happening right now in some parts of the world like Etruria, with Christians being imprisoned in shipping containers without trial.   


This week James talks about the upcoming Alpha course we are running in church. He talks about the light bulb going on for people when they experience God's love using four examples. He also played the video clip about the fine tuning in the universe being an example of the growing scientific and logical evidence for God.

Trena Morse, from Christians Against Poverty (CAP) shares about her life and the ministry of CAP. CAP is a collections of resources by which Christians can help people get out of the bondage of debt and out of poverty.

Simon talks about Christs, death and resurrection. He comes at it from the perspective of a medical doctor. He looks at the evidence which confirms that Christ was really dead and then at the evidence that he literally rose again.

Julia talks about the importance of thanksgiving, praise and worship. She explains that in terms of our talking to God, the language of that communication is thanksgiving, praise and worship.

We were privileged to have Kingsley Morris from the Picton Baptist Church come and share with us. He and is family feel called by God to move to Malawi in Africa to help informally train and disciple church leaders there.  He shares about how the Holy Spirit had set up both the sending and the receiving end of the equation.

"Christ is risen: he is risen indeed" - these are the traditional words starting the service on Easter Sunday. Julia talks about the resurrection of Christ and how that facts changes the game for all of us. She comes at it from a contemporary angle of highlighting how we all chase after false things before encountering the risen Christ.

This talk is based on Luke's account of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, which we celebrate as Palm Sunday. The talk looks at the small vignette whereby the disciples end up getting to use a families colt and secondly at what happens after we experience a spiritual high.

In this talk Julia looks at some of the implications, which flow from Mary anointing Jesus feet with perfume and drying them with her hair. It is a scene of intimacy and worship. As Julia notes Mary left Jesus presence smelling as good as He did.

This is a recording of the talk at Eve's baptism. Eve is from China. It is in both English and Chinese. It looks at hints of the creation account in Chinese tradition particularly in their written language.
Eve's journey to faith occurred over a 1 year period when she brought a bible and read it from start to finish.

Continuing our them of mission, we had Dr Tom from Mercy Missions in India speak to us this week. He also shared how he came to faith and how he felt led by God to leave the UK and set up his ministry to the poor in India.

Starting with the inspiration of Christian martyrs,  James tackles the issue of what happens when a Christian dies.  He articulates what Scripture says in this regard and points out that the basis for the Christian hope is in the physical bodily resurrection of Jesus as a literal event in history.

In this talk Steve Maina,  head of CMS New Zealand speaks about modern day mission. He explains that mission is now a two way street. The old model of the West sending money and people to the rest of the world is over. Now the west is itself a mission destination and we need to partner with churches in other countries to help reconnect people in the west with God.

This talk was given on Pentecost 2015 at the special healing service. The first half of the talk sets out why we need to be saved and how that is possible in Christ. The second half deals with healing and there are several testimonies of people who had been healed either at the last healing service or since then.

Justus Miwanda, spoke to us this week about the work of the christian organisation International Needs in Uganda. He shared his testimony and explained how we can be salt and light helping the children affected by the HIV Aids epidemic in Uganda. He finished his talk by speaking on a gospel passage in Luke.

Joan speaks about the ascension of Christ. She points out that it is in a lot of ways are more important festival than Christmas. She explains that the ascension meant:
  • That Jesus was returning home, and
  • That he had been victorious.
The implications are that we can be assured of the effectiveness of Jesus sacrificial death on the cross. When we believe in him we have our sins forgiven and can enter into a right relationship with God. That relationship will survive death: it guarantees eternal life.

Julia uses Ezekiel's temple vision as the springboard to talk on revival. She also picks up on the metaphor of water that occurs constantly in scripture as a reference to the Holy Spirit.
